Looking back to our days in the city of opportunities, which not everyone can access.
A shopping paradise full of luxury, behind which the shadows of poverty lurk.
Air conditioning is a relief after the heat but its a cage that keeps you indoors.
The swimming pool beckons with refreshment, while many do not know how to swim.
Homes with breathtaking views, built by hands that will never live there.
A sheikh who creates a perfect world and is also in control (blocked apps, extremely high fines and many rules).
Society promises stability while freedom is sometimes a luxury.
Traditions that are deeply rooted, alongside an insatiable hunger for the new.
It gives me the image of a facade. One that you can enjoy for a while. However, it is also one that you will see through after a few days.
A large luxurious bed turns out to be a wooden box with only a thin mattress (for real in our apartment, looked so comfy but it was as hard as the floor).
Beaches of gold but the water is even hotter than the sand, showers to hot to stand under.
Fortunately, you can also see beautiful moments through the facade. We can ask anyone for help. People are always helpful and polite. Many people are relaxed and take their time with you. The positivity and pride of the city inspires.
I am very happy to have experienced this once. Thankful to for the hospitality and all the comfort and safety. And to know that the enormous wealth contributes little to this.
